LABOUR COUNCILLORS IN HARINGEY HAVE FORGOTTEN THE MEANING OF SOLIDARITY.
Tonight Haringey Council will again decide to continue to tax benefits with 20% of the council tax. The alternative of increasing council tax by an average of 86 pence a week for those who can afford it, so there can be 100% council tax benefit for those who cannot, is not even on the council's agenda.
Labour Councillors in Haringey have forgotten the meaning of solidarity with their poorest fellow citizens throughout the borough.
I will refuse to pay my tax again next year unless the 100% council tax benefit is reintroduced.
The magistrates give permission to Haringey Council to enforce £125 of court costs for a liability order, on top of
- council tax arrears, and
- the coalition's caps and cuts and
- the rising cost of living.
- the bailiffs fees
The debts and cumulative impact on low incomes in work and unemployment of all that are devastating for the health and well being of Haringey people.
A liability order costs the court £3 according to the answer to a Parliamentary Question.
I asked the magistrates court for a break down of that £125; they charged me £500 before they would even consider providing one and then the put the issue in a "too difficult" file. I will start the appeal again next year.
